Massage

As you'll see from the treatment and price list page, I offer a selection of 'massage packages'. They're mostly built around the Swedish style of massage as this was the massage programme in which I trained.

Massage is an excellent preventative treatment, and is booked as a treatment by clients for all sorts of reasons. People choose to have massage if they've had a tiring week due to working in manual jobs and they feel physically fatigued and drained so need their muscles relaxing and their body soothing.  Others find they sit for long periods so feel their bodies 'seize up' and need unlocking, so appreciate a good massage with lots of stretching and deeper-tissue work to the muscles.  Then there are clients who just enjoy the pure relaxation factor of a massage, and the feel of the muscles being gently manipulated, so they can fall asleep and awake feeling totally de-stressed and 'float away'

However, for some, they see it as importantly as taking any other form of regular medication and religiously book their weekly or fortnightly massage to ensure their body is working and feeling as efficiently and on-form as it can, and to 'prevent' those niggles building back up that they feel they've spent weeks during massage having worked out.  Whatever reason you choose, you can be sure that your massage will be tailored to you and your needs and I'll listen to what you want from your massage to ensure your treatment is delivered as you expect it to be.

Like Reflexology, massage is also an ancient art form, dating back thousands of years and found worldwide - China, India, Rome, France, Greece being the places that immediately spring to our minds, not forgetting Sweden! - everyone, all over the world, past and present feels the benefit of touch. Massage has many benefits, both physically and emotionally. It helps to relax and de-stress, thereby reducing anxiety and helping clear the mind of negative thoughts. From a physiological view point it:
  • Improves the tone of the skin and it's colour
  • Encourages better circulation thus a more efficient delivery of nutrients
  • Encourages deeper breathing to a more relaxed breathing
  • Reduces swelling by encouraging better lymph drainage
  • Relieves muscle fatigue to tired, sore muscles
  • Relieves stiff joints therefore more beneficial for arthritis sufferers
  • Promotes general relaxation
  • Can sedate or stimulate the nervous system (depending on the type of massage performed)
  • Encourages sleep, therefore helps insomnia
  • Encourages better waste removal
If you choose to book a massage treatment, before you contact me, if you have any of the following conditions, then we need to have a chat before treatment can go ahead:

  • A high temperature - feeling unwell
  • Unexplained pain in an area of the body (lumps or swellings undiagnosed)
  • Recent broken bones, torn ligaments, sprained/strained tendons (or operation in an area within last 6 months)
  • Pregnancy - if not beyond first 12 weeks
  • Deep vein thrombosis, Phlebitis
  • Melanoma (if you have other forms of cancer, please call me or email beforehand so we can have a chat - I am happy to carry out your treatment, having had cancer myself and I believe it is safe to perform treatments, which can be adapted, within an agreed working parameter, so you can enjoy a relaxing treatment and not miss out)
  • Haemophilia
When I arrive for your treatment, or if you come to me for your massage, we'll go through a medical consultation to check your history and see if you've any particular reason for having the massage (aching back, stiff shoulder).  I'll then leave you to undress and give you a towel to wrap around yourself. We'll then do a posture check to see how you stand and see if this 'reveals' anything that could relate to your problems.  After this, you'll lay on the massage couch and I'll drape you with a second towel (all the time, you'll be covered and not exposed, your modesty is protected at all times). I perform the massages with organic oils or organic waxes (natural beeswaxes infused with aromatherapy oils which originate from New Zealand).  Before the treatment, you can select which you'd like for your massage.

During your massage, you can have music playing, chat, or have total quiet. If you drift off to sleep, it's entirely up to you. Everyone is different and it's YOUR massage, so you're in charge, you need to make the most of it so just enjoy.

When the treatment is over, you'll be left to come around and then encouraged to have a glass of water to help rehydrate and help with the flushing of the toxins. I'll go through anything I've found during the massage, and have a chat with you about any aftercare advice that is specific to you.

If you've any questions, please send me an email, or get in touch with the contact form. I'm also available by phone, but I would respectfully ask that phone calls are made only between 8am and 9pm.  Thank you.
